I remember very clearly the turning point that led me on the path to becoming a VA (Virtual Assistant). It was around September/October 2001 and my oldest son had just gone back to his second year of school following the long summer break. I felt very unsettled and knew that from that point on arranging for care for him (and eventually my second son) during school holidays was going to be problematic.
At this same time I only had about six months left in the position I was in as Office Manager for a multi-million dollar Government funded project, so I knew that things were about to change. I needed to look for another position within the local authority I worked for, which I wasn't too worried about, but it still didn't solve the problem of the school holidays. I just felt there had to be something better...
I picked up a copy of Office Secretary magazine that was lying around the office, and there was an article about Virtual Assistants in it! I was completely absorbed by this article and my first thought was I can do that! And you know what? That's exactly what I did!!
In November 2001 I started my practice, and by January 2002 I'd handed in my notice to my local Government employer and went straight into working for myself!
I had found my 'something better'...
And best of all, today I run a full and thriving online business management business - I even have a waiting list of clients wanting to work with me! So, what does having systems in place mean for me? For one thing, every year for the past three years, I have more than doubled my income! And I'm not having to work more hours to achieve that!
